Personal information
Earl William Grinstead was born as the eldest son of William Gustave Lux Grinstead and Nell Kish Grinstead. He enlisted in the US Navy on 30 January 1942 and was assigned to USS Tasker H. Bliss, which was sunk by U-130 on 12 November 1942. He survived the sinking and later served aboard the escort carrier USS Charger and the light carrier USS Bataan. After the war he remained in the US Navy and eventually retired as a BMSC after spending 26 years in the service.
