Notes on event

At 07.50 hours on 20 March 1943, U-81 commenced shelling a sailing vessel off Haifa. The first hit was scored from a distance of 6000 metres. At 08.08 hours, the U-boat had to crash dive because an aircraft approached, she stayed submerged for 30 minutes and then continued to shell the sailing vessel. The ship was finished off by six hits from a distance of 100 metres and sank at 09.46 hours. In the shelling 48 rounds for the 8,8cm deckgun were fired.

Krieg thought that he sank only one sailing vessel, but probably two were sunk in this action, the Bourghieh and Mawahab Allah.
