Notes on event | At 00.12 hours on 23 Sep 1944 the Brilliant (No 29) was hit by a torpedo from U-957 and sank within two minutes north of Kravkov Island. The ship was escorting convoy VD-1 at the time of her loss in very bad visibility. The Soviet corvette Rubin (No 28) and T-120 were ordered to search for the U-boat and survivors, but only one man was picked up by the minesweeper who died shortly afterwards from exposure. Three officers and 61 crewmen were lost. On 24 September, T-120 was herself torpedoed by U-739 (Mangold) and sank. |
