| History | Completed in June 1937 as PSK-303 for the NKVD for use in the Arctic as patrol ship. After the ship participated in the Winter war against Finland, she was renamed Brilliant (No 29) on 5 Jan 1941 and on 23 June assigned to the Northern Fleet. On 12 May 1942, the ship was sunk by German Ju88 aircraft at Iokanga, salvaged on 12 September and repaired from March 1943 in Zavod No 402 at Molotovsk. Returned to service in the Northern Fleet on 24 Jun 1944. | ||
| Notes on event | At 00.12 hours on 23 Sep 1944 the Brilliant (No 29) was hit by a torpedo from U-957 and sank within two minutes north of Kravkov Island. The ship was escorting convoy VD-1 at the time of her loss in very bad visibility. The Soviet corvette Rubin (No 28) and T-120 were ordered to search for the U-boat and survivors, but only one man was picked up by the minesweeper who died shortly afterwards from exposure. Three officers and 61 crewmen were lost. On 24 September, T-120 was herself torpedoed by U-739 (Mangold) and sank. | ||
