Many thanks for your posting. My mistake, I meant run-aground as opposed to scuttling. I take your point about the navigator being a moron etc, but the research I have done has lead me to believe that there were reports of U-boats running aground during WW II in the Scottish Hebrides, the isle of Islay being one such example. What I can't seem to unearth is how did this happen ? Weather/ Tides / bad maps / unfamiliarity with dangerous shallows ? Any help would be much appreciated. And oh, no this isn't going to be another U-571, we hope this to be the best U-boat movie since Das Boot. Wee while to go yet, but all help will be recognised.
