Very interesting explanation of the Type IXC U-boat diesel fuel system, which appears to be similar, in some respects, as the U.S. Fleet sub. I like the use of
flood valves, that almost eliminate the "tell-tale" wake of leaking fuel. It's a real bitch to convert FBTs to MBTs in the North Atlantic or around the Faroe Islands in
the winter.
I have a question..........the last sentence states: "The salvage tank on U.S. submarines performs this function to a lesser degree."
What is a salvage tank and where is it located?
