What ever made you leave the boats for the "Skimmer Navy?"

I did just the opposite in '54, because the sub-pay attracted me, and 'cause I had a wife and 4 kids to support and I couldn't make it on an aircraft carrier away from the
states for 18 months deployment in the Pacific.

The comraderie on "smoke-boats" never existed on the skimmers and I had 12 years on them as proof.
