To the best of my knowledge the type XXI had a pneumatic torpedo loading system but still launched the torps with a sot of compressed air that pushed a heavy piston that was positioed right behind the torop forcing it out of the tube . If you use a higher compressed air pressure you could fire the "eels " from a greater depth .
