Hi Mark,
I think Roessler mentioned it in one of his books either in conncetion of the description of the type XXI or on torpedo development during last years of WW2.
I specifically recall the 50m rule from 2 days of shooting the breeze with Heinz Franke, Cdr of U148, 262,3509 and 2502 at an Uboat meet two years ago, particularly in ref to the new torps under developement at war's end. Limitations were 1) the aforementioned inner doors and 2) lack of further pressure - proofing the torps for deeper depths. Rgds, RB
