Hi Angus,
Thanks for the DOB. Nothing noteworthy in Ancestry (though I think I have his death record...did he pass in 1987?). More stuff to be found in the National Archives. I would recommend having a poke around in there and see what looks promising. I found items under A MacInnes, as well as Archibald MacInnes...as you said, you have quite a mountin of leads to sort through. I can sympathize....1/4 of my family hail from Scotland and I have been experiencing similar challenges and frustrations as you. The upside, is of course, that I can actually read those documents without help, unlike those from the German half of the family.
Best of luck, and should I find anything stellar I will post it here.
