<HTML>true Fortean times stuff this!
actually, the Fortean times might have covered this in the past. Its worth asking.
whilst unable to comment as to the many question raised by Terry, i should say that the warships trust has in fairness, re constructed the conning tower with the help of a local shipyard, and undertaken much more behind the scenes work that we are unaware of.
As much as it pains us to see her rusting away quietly, remember that the public have only a passing interest in such things, and there are numerous instances where far more important subjects than an old uboat, have been left to rot or rust away, and in a few cases only rescued from oblivion by enthusiasts, the flying scotsman, ss great Britian etc etc.
I personally doubt as to wether the 534 is worth preserving(sorry chaps) its beyond that stage, where a few decking planks and paint would increase its value as a tourist attraction. It can never be another 505 or whatever, so its just not worth the financial imput.
i await the shouts of traitor..!</HTML>
