<HTML>Friends,

Pleas allow me this comment:

Synchronized machine guns:
Invented by Anthony Fokker, the dutchman of aiplane fame. The Triplane used by Manfred von Richthoven was a Fokker.
Before that, apart from making the machine guns fire outside the propeller arc, the French had mounted solid steel triangular \"deflectors\" on propeller blades, as to deflect shots from unsynchronized guns firing through the propeller arc. Unfortunately, the strain caused by impacting bullets on the deflectors also sometimes broke a propeller.
Some Voisin planes did not have this problem, for having a rear-mounted engine with a \"pusher\" propeller.

With best regards,

Takeo.</HTML>
