Knight's Cross winner.

<HTML>In Brian L. Davis's book, "Badges and Insignia of the Third Reich," page 168, there is a photograph with the following caption, "Ship's Writer Leading Seaman Walther Gerhold who received the Knight's Cross for his one-man submarine torpedo attack against an Allied cruiser, part of the Normandy invasion fleet {22 July 1944}. The writer's trade badge shown forms an integral part of the two chevron obergefreiter sleeve badge."

Gerhold is shown in the traditional sailor's jumper with the "Donald Duck" Kriegsmarine-tallied cap wearing the Iron Cross 1st Class, a ribbon bar to the Iron Cross 2ns Class, the Knight's Cross and the Destroyer War Badge.

Gerhold is not listed on the Knight's Cross winners page here on uboat-net and I wondered if anyone had heard of him.</HTML>
