<HTML>Hi Brian,
I got pretty much the same from him as well as some other info from his 'associate' in Belgium. I find it quite possible that a non-Kriegsmarine Uboat was operated by one or the other clandestine services in Germany. I just emphatically deny it may have been a type XIb. Instead I am betting it was the French boat (s.a.) completed by the Germans. Rgds, RB
PS: Sure would like to know what its mission was. Could well have had something to do with backchannel communications. When those were not desired anymore after Yalta, State Dept. just might have arranged the sinking of another of those pesky enemy boats. Interesting possibilities to muse abt.</HTML>
