German U-boats in Argentina after WW II

<HTML>Hi,

Two U-boats ended up in Argentina after the end of the war, U977 and U530. Little seems to be known about this last U-boat, anyone having more info on the reasons they went to Argentina ?

Also there is an Argentinian rumour that in 1946, two German U-boats were in Argentina, some talk even about the type XXI, and that they have remained over there !

There is also the fact, that although Walter Hagen, says this was never the fact that Operiation Bernard, or Unternehmen Bernard, also was active in South America, and more especially in Argentina (Unternehmen Bernard was the big and successfull operation of making counterfit money such as British Ponds and USD, which was used for secret operations in a large part of the world).

And many years ago a U-boat man once told me of a story of a German U-boat operating in South American waters near the end of WW II or possibly even after it. The story was that it was accompanied by a another ship for supplies, and it seems to have been possibly a very large sailing ship operating under a south American flag. The U-boat would probably have ended up in Argentina.

Now I know this probably are cowboy stories, however Unternehmen Bernard is not, and neither is the fact that money of this operation ended up with a submarine in Argentina. Only question in this case is which submarine transported it to there ? And is there any truth in the other stories, has anyone ever heard of them or found any more links to for example Operation Bernard ?

Thanks and best from Johan</HTML>
