<HTML>Hi Guido: I was researching my files , awhile reading the book written by Heins Schaffer about his saga in U 977. I want to correct your last paragraph when you stated that no uboat was operational southern of Rio de Janeiro. But one of those dauntless crews were in fact hundred miles south . The uboat in question is U 513 which while prowling off Santa Catarina state , was caught by airplanes of VP 74 and had his tragic end in july 19 1943 with 46 dead and 7 survivors. His captain was nothing but the famous Guggenberger. The position of the sinking was S27 17 and W 47. 32. Thank you very much and , to add a bit more, the sub was located by a brazilian divers group and they are organizing a search and photo reconaissance in the area.
