<HTML>Alan:

U.S. submarines carried their 2,000# anchors on either starboard or port side forward, depending which shipyard built the boat. They used 105 fathom of 1-inch die-lock steel chain, in 10-fathom "shots" joined together with a special "detachable' steel links.

The anchor windlass (which served as a capstan also) was hydraulically powered and operated by a large "T" wrench topside at the forward part off the boat.

I would also like to find out more about the U-boat anchors

Regards,</HTML>
