<HTML>re RN requirements

Admiralty Manual of Seamanship refers to
"A" Class 1120 Displ Tons have one bower at 12 cwt 7/8 wrought iron cable & 6 shackles.

"S" Class 715 Displ Tons have one bower at 8 cwt 3/4 wrought iron cable & 5 shackles.

When poossible the weather anchor is always used so that the ship will swing clear of her cable. If about to anchor in deep water (over 15 fathoms) the anchor is lowered to within 10 fathoms of the bottom before it is let go; this is done to prevent damage to the anchor and cable.
