<HTML>Hello friends,
I would like to put in my two cents here too. First of all, thanks to Ken Dunn for that excellent website.
I think this is a classic case of someone who was so teased and bullied all his life that this person became very strong willed and obviously would tend to join or believe in something that is perhaps very violent and strong (vengeful) as the Nazi party was at his time of youth.
The fact that he was a womanizer and enjoyed those items was perhaps his downfall with the Navy but I\'m sure that went on with many armed forces personnel. I think he was probably not really good at covering things up. . I think the womaninzing thing is also a result of that constant bullying. Womanizers like that basically have no respect for women.
Could he have been different in the Navy? I would tend to think so. However, considering the fact that he turned out the way he did, it is difficult to tell. A person who is criticized and made fun of for his heritage and way of being for all of his life will look to plot revenge all of his life too. I think he got caught up in a massive power trip and was anti-Sematic as result of trying to prove his rumored heritage. Propaganda surely helped this! I think there must have been a switch in his brain after he was thrown out of the Navy, just like in Hitler\'s brain after he was turned down by the art academy.
He probably would have made a good u-boot commander in terms of his way of being. It is usually the wild ones that make the best commanders as they can think quicker on instinct and impulse. A good example of this would be Pappy Boyington of the Black Sheep squadron. He was a crazy guy. He would endulge in women, alcohol and parties but yet, he was a fierce fighter pilot with one of the best flight records in history.
Anyway, he was one of the worst of the Reich, but I guess the question here is: was this man the way he was because of his youth life and outside influences, or was he born with it?
Tough question to answer I would say. So I will leave it at that.
Best wishes to all,
Fin Bonset
