Many thanks, Volker!
I was especially struck by the official and ongoing designation of the new boats as "U 31" and "U 32" rather than U-31 and U-32.
As many of the readers here are probably aware, "U xxx" is historically the most authentic designation for the German U-Boats, although U-xxx and U.xxx were also occasionally employed.
In my case, I have grudgingly adopted the U-35 designation because it is the most recognizable form worldwide, but also because spaces are not allowed in domain names, and because U35.com was taken (by some kind of suspicious spam-like organization). So in this Internet age, I feel compelled to refer to my favorite U-Boat as U-35. That will probably be evident in the book (even the German edition).
So please take this as a kind of apology-in-advance for my less-than-fully-authentic designation.
Best regards, Hans
