<HTML>Hi Mike,
A really delicate topic which may well evolve into another sensational thread here!
However, I don\'t quite understand what do you mean exactly by the question: \"Was sex used as a weapon by men and/or women\"? Under what circumstances? Battlefield or for the purpose of intelligence? Or maybe both? If it\'s for battlefield, then the Russians have definitely used it as a weapon during WWII.
It is said that the Russian propaganda at that time called on women to fight the enemies in their own way while their families and loved ones were fighting in the battlefields. I can\'t remember the exact words, but its main idea is like: to lie down with a German soldier is nothing shameful as in doing so you\'re also fighting for your motherland. The common practice, so I have heard is that, Russian women brought with them thin iron wires when conducting sex with German soldiers. And then at certain point she strangled the soldier with the iron wire while the latter is totally defenceless. This seemed to be a quite efficient method and quite some German soldiers of the Eastern front died in this way.
However, I do have some doubts regarding this. As the Germans regarded them as the superior race at that time and most other nations the inferior, thus it is said that it\'s considered a disgrace for a German soldier to have sex with someone from the inferior race. Is that true?
As to how sex affected the daily life of men at sea, I think we have discussed it to some extent in a previous thread regarding women on subs. Some commanders, like Lueth and Hardegen, don\'t think it\'s appropriate to have sexual appetite on board, thus they don\'t allow pictures of nude girls to be pinned on walls and pornographic magazines be brought on board, etc. However, on-board discussions of such topics among the crew can never really be avoided, anyway, it\'s almost impossible to control others\' minds, and it\'s quite normal for young sailors to have sexual fantasies.
As to the use of prostitutes in foreign/home bases, I think U-boat men enjoyed the most privilege in this aspect. It is said that Doenitz is a very considerate and caring leader and he knows very well the needs of his men. Thus when a U-boat returned to its French base after a patrol, what\'s awaiting them were the best hotels and best prostitutes. Also a speical language pamphlet was designed and handed out to U-boat men in order to convenience the communication between them and local girls. The pamphlet contains the French equivalence of many frequently used \"practical\" words. It is said that the American submariners quite envy their German counterparts on such issues.
Well, that\'s what I can think of for the time being. All the info I have are from books I\'ve read over the years, so for some of them, I even can\'t remember the name of the source. Sorry for that Mike, as I know you need the information source for a serious research.
I\'ll be waiting for some more exciting and authentic replies to come!
Take care,
Ying
