I've just read through all the messages which have been sent to me and I must say, I find the general tone of some of them, to be patronising and condescending....
I contacted this noticeboard for informed help in researching this subject and what do I get...attacks on the BBC and well as how stupid I must be to even research this subject!
I live in Donegal and I know 'all the stories'and myths of U-boat landings etc surrounding this period. And I wasn't born yesterday either! (By the way, someone should tell Robert Fisk who recounts much of these 'In Time of War').
I was just trying to establish the truth. It's called research. And I was hoping, somewhat naively, that perhaps there might be a story or two out there which had somehow ducked under the historical radar.
Having said that, I do wish to acknowledge and thank those of you, who have taken the time to reply to me in an informed and courteous manner. You know who you are.
Regards,
Peter
PS Some of you will no doubt be pleased to hear that this has NOT yet been commissioned by the BBC, so your precious licence payers money hasn't been wasted yet! I work as an independent Producer (not employed by the BBC) who tries to make a living by coming up with good programme ideas! Obviously this is not one of them....
