G'Day From Australia,
My Dad was the Radio Officer and Acting Medical Office on the MV British Promise when the ship was torpedoed 21/11/1942.
My dad is now 94 year of age and he is re-telling some of his tours during the war. (He has lots of stories)
I do know that the sub was U-518
Dad also said that after repairs the British Promise could not keep a straight course because of the dent in the side. The hole made by the torpedo was big enough to drive two double decker buses through.
Good Luck
Don
