Hi Ken, thank goodness you remembered the photos, presummably what ever they contained, was for the use of the lower wintergarten crew, which means for the weapons. Seeing the ammo for the guns had water tight compartments secured on the deck in front and rear of the guns on the lower wintergarten [Stern page 36-37], then replacement barrels seems a feasible suggestion.
