Dear All,
This is a long-shot follow-up question.
It is : "Does anyone reading this "post" live in or near Chicago, and if so could you please possibly contact the Museum's archivist for me"?
I ask for 2 reasons.
First, it is becoming apparent that U-505 probably took part in several (not just 2) War Bond and Exhibition Tours of the East Coast and Gulf ports between May and November 1945.
Second, because the info about U-505's 2 early War Bond Tours recorded on the website navsource.org states that it came from the Chicago Museum.
It seems therefore that the Museum might well have some "proper" records of these events and, if so, I should like to track them down.
Alternatively, can anyone please find out the actual name and personal e-mail address of the Museum's chief archivist? If so, then I will take up the story direct. I am however loath to use the Museum's general "info" e-mail address as experience suggests that such queries often get "lost" in the great IT box in the sky!
Also, of course, as I am located in the UK, trans-Atlantic telecons are not really the most suitable means of communications for such queries.
I await responses with baited breath.
Yours aye,
Derek
