<HTML>Wouldn\'t that be Makudonarudo? One could also go out for some chocorateh isu kurimu.
When I was stationed there, the government said that the official Latin spelling should be \"Nippon,\" despite the fact that it was inevitably pronounced Nihon. Hense, Nippon Denso, among others. There was also Nashiyonaru, spelled \"National\" in English, and pronounced \"Panasonic\" most places these days. I also recall that the Emperor\'s name was officially transliterated as \"Hirohito,\" but pronounced \"Hee-rosh-toe.\"
The strangest, though, was sitting in a bar in Yokohama listening to a middle-aged Japanese businessman tell a story from a Zero pilot\'s viewpoint that I\'d already heard a few dozen times from the viewpoint of the truck driver. (Dad) I always thought it would be interesting to get those two together, but I never did.
