The Russians had used a \"S\" or \"SS\" + # designation during WW2. Their # 12, I believe, caused the world\'s WORST ship disaster (making Titanic seem small by comparison) by sinking the Wilhelm Gustloff in January, 1945 with over 7,000 drowning and about 1,100 survivors (amazing in view of cold Baltic water at the time). I Wonder why Hollywood never made a film of this - perhaps Sen. McCarthey was not wrong about the place. Of course, a movie about mainly wounded and old men, women and many children just drowning is probably not good box office. Sorry about \"side-tracking\" but we are in the submarine \"movie\" forum.
