Is there a good way to die?


Stuck on the bottom with no way back would be awful, but consider -

Trapped in the belly turret of a B-17 spiralling in after a wing is shot off, or

Trapped in a Tiger tank which is burning in a sea of spinning gasoline drums sent down by Henry Fonda, or

Stuck in a P-38 with a canopy that won't open and one engine and wing gone, or

Caught in a cave on Iwo Jima when a USMC flamethrower or white phosphorus round hits you, and finally

Scrambling out of the engine room of a sinking aviation gas tanker which has taken a couple of torpedos.


I doubt than in the end, they are any worse than Hiroshima, Nagasaki or Dresden. Movies have brought us the sense of the horror, enough so for me to wish for:

"peace on earth, and goodwill to all mankind." Let it end here, today.
