The conversation which Herr Kummrow cites takes place on U96, on the conning tower. However, I think that the exchange "Well, I always wanted to see Gibraltar"--"You don't know what you're talking about" [very loose translation] takes place on the Weser, when both the LI and Weser are trying to be good sports about the request for them to leave the boat has been turned down. LI says something about "They probably would have sent you some engineer who's still wet behind the ears." In the book, of course, there's a second LI already on board, but he isn't much use, so it's a damn good thing they had Fritz Grade on board to save the boat after she was sunk in Gibraltar.
