I see that U-778 was sunk in Operation Deadlight, I would imagine that they remove the wintergarten for that.

Sorry, do not know much about the Type IX's, but if you have no luck here, you may like to try over at Your boat looks great!

I am not an expert on the Type IX's but the outline is of a Type IX U-boat, so I would believe it could be U-505. A higher scan of the photo would help to confirm this.

I believe the inside was painted in either RAL 9002 white or RAL 9003 ivory. Hard to try in original photo’s. I think RAL 9002 white as RAL 9003 ivory was used inside the pressure hull.

The Drawing The drawing is base on U-1308 a Type VIIC/41. U-1308 was the last Type VII to be build, consequently the Kriegsmarine fitted her out to be the most advanced Type VII’s of her type. U-1308 was one of nine Type VIIs that the Kriegsmarine fitted with an experimental synthetic rubber skin of anechoic tiles known as Alberich. U-1308 was also one of two Type VIIC/41s that was equipped with

I believe most boats between 1943 & 1944 would have both the FuMO30 and DF Loop. A reason why you unlikely to see many pictures of them together is that almost all captains never used the FuMO30, so it unlikely to be seen in war time pictures. There are several styles of both FuMO30 and DF Loop depending on the year and boat number. You can check out my article on them at AMP.

A small error on figure 2 should read... "FuMO-30 radar transmitter with the FuMB Ant. 5 Samoa antenna for the FuMB-4 radar detection."

A survivor from U-1229 talked about the German company of Askania Werke, having been experimenting with an automatic depth-keeping device to be used with the Schnorchel. Does anyone know anything about this automatic depth-keeping device? Thanks, Simon.

Does anyone know which U-boat this in the background? Sources: I thought it maybe U-805, but U-805 is a Type IXC/40, could it be U-1305?

Pete, here something you may find interesting U-1208, U-1056, U-1060 (Type VIIF) & U-1165 (Type VIIC-41) had a modified ‘Atlantic’ bow fitted with a towing eye conversion for underwater refuelling.

Hi TopherVIIC The fins are the same. We think they are for strengthening the tube in the area I have been studying the Type VIIC/41 and drawing U-1308 almost for 3 years now. Below is a link for my second version of my 'Working drawing' of U-1308 that you may find helpful with your Type VIIC research. To view the drawing you will need to have a PDF viewer like Adobe Reader (ver

Does anyone know if the German's keep the mounting for the forward deck gun (8.8cm) on the late war Type VIIC or on the Types VIIC'41? Or did they completely remove the whole mount under the deck? Thanks, Simon.

Exhaust Gas Blowing System The exhaust gas blow system used exhaust gas from the main engines to assist with blowing the tanks to raise the U-boat. A pipe extending forward from the main engine exhaust valves, to led forward to a manifold located over the control room. From the manifold, smaller pipes runs to 8 tanks around the u-boat. The eight associated valves in the manifold were operable

Thanks for the kinds words Sometime I wonder if I am adding to much detail Several weeks ago I was given several war time photographs that show the piping under the aft decking. From these new photographs, I was able to confirm that I had corrected estimate the placements of the fuel oil and the engine lubricating oil lines. In addition, I was able to added more detail to the piping for t

I see that U-1308 is not no the list. A few days before Germany surrendered on 8 May 1945, U-1308 was taken approximately 5 km (3.1 mi) north-west of Warnemünde and scuttled on 2 May. Raised in October 1952 and broken up at Neptun Dockyard, Rostock.

Air Inlet Mast - UPDATE While researching the Air Inlet Trucking Line, I noticed almost all models and drawing are incorrect. Most have believed that trucking line come out at the bottom of the mast as in Fig. 2. However, as see in the two wartime photographs below (Figs. 3 & 4) Fig. 1 is correct. Fig. 1. The new piping layout for the Air Inlet. Fig. 2. The commonly drawn or mode

I also believe that all the warheads except for the T5 were a bronze colour. The other day I was watching an original film document of a group of men removing an old Germany torpedo of a u-boat. You could clearly see the warhead was a bronze colour once removed. I try to remember the film document, but can’t If I remember I will post a link.
