Hi Lio U-203 fired its last three torpedoes at an apparently stopped steam merchant off the coast of Newfoundland between St. John's and Cape Race. All missed and only a detonation was heard behind the freighter. They assumed a hit on a patrol boat that was observed passing between the target and the coast, but a hit can not be confirmed from Allied sources, so it is more likely that a to

Apparently a case of misidentification, there was a EMPIRE LIGHTING but this ship survived the war. The ship sunk by U-654 on 10 April 1942 was EMPIRE PRAIRIE:

Hi Lio U-118 supplied U-176 on 8 and U-175 on 11 February. Alltogether 9 boats on her 3rd patrol. On 14 February, the boat supplied without doubt U-504, because U-514 had entered Lorient on 12 February as it is mentioned in the BdU KTB.

Hi again On 8 February 1943, U-118 gave two Metox sets to U-176, which delivered them to U-71 and U-620 on 12 February. U-118 supplied U-87, U-264 and U-504 on 14 February in DH47.

Hi Lio In the morning on 21 November 1942, U-155 first met U-511 and they then searched together for U-118, locating her at noon in DH2452. While the doctor went aboard U-511, the U-155 recieved spare parts for her oil pump and 50 alkali cartridges and soon thereafter left. When the doctor confirmed that Steinhoff was seriously ill, U-511 transferred 42m³ of fuel oil to U-118 and returned to

Well, I think in the Indian Ocean clip you can see at least two different ships being sunk. At 04:24 it's apparently a Liberty-class ship.. most likely the ALICE F. PALMER being sunk by U-177 in July 1943 off Madagascar. At 05:02 you can clearly read the name RADAMES. This ship was sunk by U-103 in May 1941 off Freetown. The sailing vessel being sunk in the other clip could be t

490. Re: U-37.
Well, we publish the current state of historical research and this often differs from other data mentioned in older books. I just checked Wynn's book and in the text he lists the same ships sunk as we do. 55 if you count the names mentioned, so 51 is apparently a mistake.

Do you mean this movie? The orginal movie will be hard to get on DVD because it is not allowed to sold such Propaganda movies in Germany. BTW, the movie was filmed on the brand-new U-123 with many of the original crew members and Karl Dönitz playing himself. I'm not aware of any U-boat commander appearing in the movie.

Well, in German a Wintergarten describes a small conservatory that is fitted to a house as extension into the garden. The AA platform Wintergarten was an extension of the conning tower into the after deck of the U-boat. The similarities mentioned by PatW are correct too.

The bow and all torpedo tubes were badly bend to port and there was a flooding of the bow room that could be stopped by the crew.

The US destroyer USS BORIE sank after ramming U-405: Other escort vessels were badly damaged in such rammings, for example HMS HARVESTER which rammed U-444 but was afterwards an easy target for U-432:

I don't think so.. the accident happened at night during tactical exercises in heavy seas. The U-boats saw each other only at a distance of 150 metres, U-153 tried to avoid the collision but rammed U-583 on the port side aft of the deck gun, causing her to sink fast.

Hi Joe I'm aware of three other cases in which U-boats rescued other U-boatmen: The outbound U-185 picked up the survivors of U-564 after the U-boat was sunk by an air attack in the Biscaya on 14 June 1943, later transferred them to German destroyers and continued its patrol. They then rescued the crew of U-604 after she was disabled by an air attack in the South Atlantic on 11 August

Hi Jean U-43 operated between Father Point and Matane (in grid BA38) in October 1942 and this was as far as I know the most western Position reached by a German U-boat on the St.Lawrence River. So the answer is no, no U-boat operated in the grids you mentioned.
