DetailsThese planes sank a number of U-boats in the Bay of Biscay during the war. Some flew Leigh light Wellingtons. They attacked at night using radar to spot the U-boat on the surface, approached quietly and turned on their powerful Leigh lights just before getting to the U-boat. The light blinded the crew manning the AA guns and gave the plane a good opportunity to drop bombs, depth charges and even hedgehogs.
