To Sniper and Mr McDaniel,
Hi Sniper,
Thank you for your response to my kindergarten grade enquiries...I appreciate you taking the trouble to help me out. I believe a number of such boats could be available around the world in various locations and greatly varying condition. The info on the torpedoes was interesting. It seems the Germans were/are ingenious at devising new technology. I haven't a clue exactly how the wire guidance would have worked...how did the wires attach to the torpedoes when they were shoved into the tubes? Where was the drum/spool of wire located? Could the same direction of the torpedoe be done today by radio? Could a "torpedocam" on the nose of each Torpedo actually work?
At least I understand the reference to a clinometer...thanks.
Hi Mr McDaniel,
Thank you for your piece of info. I confess now that I also found that old movie "Down Periscope" along with "Das Boot" the other day, and watched them both. The "Down Periscope" was silly, but quite good fun if all one wanted to do was soak up some vision of an old diesel sub and its cramped and confined quarters in apparent operation.
Regards to you both.
Ian Edwards.
