Hi Hans,
How about this:
"Now the proceedure is as follows: Diesel, E-motor, and Torp bilges are emptied with the auxiliary pump into the Regler (believe proper English word is compensating tank?) in order to get the free surface effect of the water (in the bilges) under control. Then, the main ballast pump is used to empty the contents of the Regler to sea, thus insuring continous suction on the main pump."
