I would go with a V&W Class also based on the gun mounting and the bridge configuration (see Raven A. & Roberts J. 1979 V & W Class Destroyers. Arms & Armour Press. for some excellent photographs). Not many of this class operated in the Meditterranean so someone might be able to narrow the actual ship down for you with the description of the attack by Italian bombers.
