Hi Daniel,

as the CITY OF LUCKNOW was torpedoed in the mediterranean and the crew rescued by british destroyer RIFLEMAN (and most probably was brought to Malta), the CALIFORNIA was just used to transfer the survivors.

Maybe they there brought to Gibraltar first, than to the US or first to England an than to US or so.
