Hi Daniel and Oliver,
I was quite astounded to read about the officer survivors of the City of Lucknow being on board Anchor Lines TSS California and being exchanged to City of Delhi at New York.
My research so far shows the complete crew of 19 europeans and 42 natives of India being rescued by HMS Rifleman on 30h.April 1916. According to Rifleman's log card she transferred the survivors to the French battleship Gauloius at Milo Island.
At this point I have no further information except the entry on my Father's Apprentice indentures that he received cash at both Alexandria and Plymouth, which indicates that he was at some point at both these ports on his way home. It looks to me that he was landed at Alexandria where he joined California to New York and came home to Plymouth on baord City of Delhi. But can this be proved. Obviously California must have called at Alexandria. I w3ould very much appreciate a copy of this newspaper article if possible.
Cheers
Jim
