HMS Zubian

<HTML>Walter,

Something kind of similiar happened in WWI. The Nubian lost her bow in an action with German destroyers on October 27, 1916 and had to be run aground. The Zulu, meanwhile, was mined on November 8, 1916 with the after part of the ship being destroyed. The Royal Navy decided to use the good parts of th two ships to create one whole destroyer. The difficult task - Nubian and Zulu were far from identical and even had different beams - was performed at Chatham Dockyard. On June 7, 1917 HMS Zubian was commissioned. Zubian is credited with sinking UC 50 on February 4, 1918.

Best wishes,

Michael
