The french class Surcouf had only one sub, with a hangar (behind the conning tower) and two big guns in front tonning tower.
In fact, she was a cruiser, (on water level in attack and dived after, or for the approach time.) She has been sunk in atlantic ocean, on 1942, in a collision with a cargo ship.
