Grand Admiral Raeder

<HTML>I had the occasion to watch a documentary on the Bismcarck narrated by John Hillerman. I was rather stunned to learn that Admiral Raeder forbid his men to use the Nazi salute, and he refused to dismiss Jewish officers who were serving in the Kriegsmarine. Any discussion on the topic is welcome, but I'm especially curious to know how he could hide the this from the Gestapo.
