<HTML>Well I've managed so far to get to 5th on the high score board! That really surprised me! Of course I've loaded the update that makes that possible. My general tactic is to find the enemy whilst on the surface at night, and like you I get as close as possible before slipping under the water to periscope depth. Then I set my electric engines to flank speed and get within 2000m of the bulk of the targets if it is a convoy. If there are destroyers around I take a chance, and close to about 2300m hoping they won't detect me too early. Then I fire at as many targets as I can see, but never at the Destroyer escort. I turn fast to the right or left and dive to about 150m ie below test depth if possible, or as low as I can go. As I make the turn I rig for silent. Usually with a 10 minutes destroyers will turn up, but by zig-zagging away, circling, sometimes stopping and circling very slowly, I usually survive. The idea is to guess where they are a go away from them in the opposite direction to their travel. (This way they can't hear you, and distance is life). Once I can see again that all is clear I surface and charge my batteries for the day, so I can stay submerged for as long as possible. I have been destroyed by an aircraft attack on one occasion, so I avoid them like the plague.

Like you, when I first played it I was destoyed. My only big score was an attack on the PQ17 Convoy heading for Arkangelsk. Here, without many escorts, I waiting in the Roads, and torpedoed 4 ships, before slipping away in the dark on the surface to avoid an American destroyer. I nearly ran out of fuel, but by using the speed set to minimum or one third, and recharging the batteries and using my electric engines at minimum for as long as possible whilst surfaced, I got back to the base with a fraction of fuel to go! This was my most memorable mission and put me up there with the greats!
