I'm sure you're starting to realize there are "many" different ways to have the same outcome. Each Uboat skipper probably had differing views on what he would do in certain situations...which the next skipper might not do.

It all boils down to your own training, comfort level, knowing your boat and its limitations and knowing your own abilities as commander.

I relate this to my own profession of flying airliners around the country. There are many different techniques to accomplish the exact same task and as long as they meet the regulations and requirments of the mission, you can do it.

A good lick of common sense comes into play here as well.
