<HTML>Gentlemen thank you all for your replies,
My main reason for the purchase of the book was for info on Marlag the RN camp but it contains very little on that. p107 shows a photo of Korvettenkapitan Bernhard Rogge with 4 rings on his sleeve, and his medals (looks like the Knights Cross with Oakleaves, and I can only find one Rogge with this award), on page 230 Two blindfolded Germans are being led away by two British tommies and one is said to be Rogge.
Joe Slovak got in touch (He is the Author of: The Cruise of the German Raider Atlantis) and says that they are not the same person as the photograph shows a Korvettenkapitan , however the Atlantis Rogge was made a
Korvettenkapitan in 1/10/1934 until 1/11/1937 when he was made a Fregattenkapitan.
The photograph could be from 1934/7(I am trying to contact the person that has the credits for the photo ) the medals awarded Knights Cross(7/12/40) and the Oakleaves (31/12 41) could mean that it is the wrong Rogge in the photograph but my knowledge of German medals is poor and the photograph not all that clear.
The book states that Rogge was promoted and made commander of the 2 camps (Milag and Marlag) on the 17 April 1945
My first hint that something was amiss came when I read the Atlantis story
and I wondered if Rogge had fallen from grace (so to speak) and ended up in charge of Milag.
I suspect that we have 2 Rogge s and the wrong photograph has been used in the book so I will try for some other photographs of him to compare.
The book states that Rogge(from the camp) was on a merchant ship that was captured and he became a P.O.W. But I have a press cutting from the time the camp was liberated naming Rogge as camp commander and stating that he was captured in 1918 at Scapa flow.
Re snip Also a number of the POWs in Milag were sent there by Rogge as a result of Atlantis sinking their ships and taking them captive. Snip
The irony of this point is made in the book!
Have you seen the film "Captive Heart" ? I am told it does the rounds on T.V. in the U.K.and that it covers Marlag
Well if nothing else this thread has helped a few people!
regards to you all from a sunny Merseyside U.K.
