Good to hear from you.
Yes, Mr. Chatterton does deserve kudos for the U-869 "discovery". It was a lot of hard work and involved a very dangerous dive inside the U-boat, during which they collected the artifacts that positively I.D.' the boat.
That was, however, as you noted for NOVA which is a PBS program. They tend to have higher standards than the History Channel. Since then he has played off that accomplishment and created a series of forgettable mockumentaries on the History Channel trying to capture the same drama, which is often painfully forced.
Some of thier programming seems quite good (I'm interested in History in general)and there are several series I enjoy. Other's are not so good. I remember another forum member describe it once as 'Hitler porn'. A little harsh perhaps, but they do seem to run the whole spectrum.
Again, when it comes to the battle of the Atlantic, my money's on uboat.net.
