The US submarine lost in 1968 was the Scorpion, not the Sturgeon (which never went down - the other US nuclear powered sub lost was the Threasher in 1963).

I have not seen any mention of it in U.S. accounts of the loss (which doesn\'t necessarrily mean much), though it is definitely worth enquiring further. A problem may well be why the USN was searching off Norfolk when the Scorpion was later located an ocean away. (There could be something classified involved, so they might not be willing to talk about it at all.)

BTW, where did you see the reference to the U-boat discovery during the search. It could be very useful if we have to contact the USN directly.
