<HTML>Good God, you have to be kidding.
U-571 was nice action movie eye-candy, but it is a historical embarassement. The only thing the story in U-571 has in common with actual U-boat warfare is that they both took place in water. I found it painful to watch ti was sobad and innacurate.
Das Boot, on the other hand, stands head and shoulders above all the others not only as the finest sub movie, but one of the finest war films, of all time.
At least, in my opinion! To each their own.
And, the English were reading both Air Force and Naval enigma without our help, though the additional resources of the US helped make timely decrypts of the 4-rotor shark Naval enigma. Ultra was more of a British show than an American one.
A irrelevant footnote: Das Boot was the largest grossing foreign film in US history, till Crouching Tiger / Hidden Dragon.</HTML>
