<HTML>Perhaps the most galling thing about U-571 is that they only took half measures to make the U-boat "realistic". The makers of Das Boot spent alot of time researching actual U-boats to arrive at it's "set" Watching Das Boot on Directors Cut DVD with German language, American sub titles with a decent surround sound set-up and on a big screen television, is about as close as anyone one of us is going to get to "actual" U-boat warfare. The scene in U-571, where Harvey K gives Mathew C the "pep talk", that takes place in the officer's quarters (The German equivalent to the American Wardroom) is laughable. They are sitting at a table that looks like it did recent duty at a sandwich shop and how about all the pictures on the walls?? Apparently, a very nice one hour photo was located in New Rochelle. I know that total realism is not always possible or probable (Though I must admit, HBO's recent "Brother's in Arms" featured very realistic depiction of German armour and equipment), but why expend the money to get it "half right"...that means at least SOME research has been done. In a way, that seems even more maddening!!</HTML>
