<HTML>It's been ages ago that I read the book, but I imagine that the injury you refer to would have been taken straight out of the book by Petersen, faithful as he was to Buchheims original.
The most magnificent thing about the movie, in my opinion, is the fact that Petersen has managed to cover those many long chapters in the book about the boredom and frustration of 50 odd days at sea in which nothing happens at all. I find it miraculous that Petersen could 'describe' the mood so well, without the movie losing any of its pace.</HTML>
