<HTML>There is an interesting footnote in the appendices section of Robert Stern's Battle Beneath The Waves - he says that no U Boat man he talked to was too forthcoming about what a depth charge attack felt like but all agreed that the impressions shown in Das Boot were very accurate. What they disagreed with was the Phantom's mental breakdown coming to the Captain's notice - they said that while some men did crack at such times they would have been dealt with long before it came to the Old Man's notice.</HTML>
