This is the forum for Movie and Film discussions. Again, our topic is naval warfare in WWII for the most part.

Gannon notes a conflict between the recollection of the U-123 crewmember Walter Lorenz (who uses the "falling about" reference on page 49 of Operation Drumbeat) and Hardegen's KTB account of U.S.S. Dahlgren's D/C attack on U-123. Hardegen's KTB reads in part: "The boat takes a terrible beating, the crew members fly about, and practically everything breaks down." See Page 367 of Operation Drumbeat. Gannon observes this apparent contradiction in his notes to that KTB passage on Page 461, Note 87.
Given the shallow water in which U-123 found herself when attacked by Dahlgren, the reflective hydraulic pressure wave off the bottom (from even a distant D/C explosion) would have been tremendous, so it seems likely that the crew would have been subject to some severe buffeting and "flying about" under those particular circumstances.
How's that for minutiae!
For my money, the D/C attacks in Das Boot are as good as they get. In my humble opinion, only by constructing a WWII era U-boat and subjecting it to WWII era D/C attack and filming it could more "realism" be gained!
