This is the forum for Movie and Film discussions. Again, our topic is naval warfare in WWII for the most part.

<HTML>Hello Mikko
yeah, I agree, in dramatic terms it was an entirely justifiable plot change for exactly the reasons you suggest.
I still think they may have been on legal thin ice though. That now standard disclaimer was prompted by the Yussupov case I believe, but I'm not sure whether it has been legally tested in a case where a film is marketed and promoted on its real life basis, and contains clear and identifiable real individuals. 'Johann' and 'Johannsen' are so similar, altered biographical details notwithanding, the identification is beyond doubt (we all made it, after all). The film's legal team must have checked it out and thought it to be on safe ground though, which is why it crossed my mind that Hans Johannsen may sadly have passed on.
BTW, Petersen is of course credited with doing the adaption himself, but I heard/read a comment once to the effect another writer was credited with the script originally. I wondered if this can be true (can't see it personally - he seems to have kept a very tight grasp on all creative aspects of the project to me), or whether he may have used a scriptwriting pseudonym during the pre production negotiations for some reason. Anyone know?
